Organic cultivation of coriander

          Today we will discuss about coriander.


It has an important role in organic cultivation as it is being used as spice since old age. Coriander and it's leaves have high amount of vitamin A. It seeds are crushed and are used for various purposes just like in pickles, Souce, sweetmeats, etc. Is used for it's essence. Along with it the oil from it's seeds are used to make soaps. Green coriander is used to make delicious and attractive vegetable, soups, salad, etc. In india it's cultivation in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamilnadu and Jharkhand. It is exported in Sri Lanka, USA, Singapore and Japan etc. 


                                Climate.

For it's cultivation places with moderate temperature and climate are best for it's cultivation. At the time of blooming of flowers if the temperature is too high and wind speed after the production of the crops.


                               Suitable land.

It's organic cultivation can be done in every type of soil and the organic manure are used and the water draining capacity of the soil should be good. It's better production is seen in sandy-loamy Soil and the soil with basic quality can be used for it's good cultivation.


                      Preparation of farm.

For it's cultivation the land should be ploughed properly. 1st ploughing should be done with land twister and 2 Or 3 ploughing should be done by using cultivator and irrigation the land after every ploughing. After the last ploughing 15-20 tons of cowdung, 500kg vermi compost and 200 kg of neem bark should be mixed up in the soil at the rate of per hectare.


                        Time of harvesting.

Coriander is a Rabi Crop but in our country it is cultivated at the time of monsoon for this it is cultivated in pure or mixed farming. In northern India it is cultivated at the time winter while in southern India it is cultivated in summer as well as winter therefore it is cultivated twice in southern states. The time for it's harvesting in winter is from 15 October- 15 November while in summer the best time is from May- June.


                                Seed rate.

The rate of seeds depend on the way it is being harvested. If it is being cultivated by sprinkle method then about 20-25kg/heactare of seeds are required, If it is being cultivated in line then about 12-15kg/heactare of seeds are required.


                             Seeds treatment.

     Before harvesting the seeds should be treated with microbial culture for this 250gm of sugar in 1 liter of water is boiled and add 600PSB culture after cooling of the solution and sprinkle the solution over the seeds and mix it well by hands and leaves it ideal in dark place for drying. At the time of harvesting press the seeds lightly to divide in the seeds are into dicot.


                         Methods of harvesting.

 For this make beds in the farm and then sow the seeds in it. It can be harvested by either by plough or by sprinkle method. After harvesting by sprinkle method cover up the seeds soil to upto 2-4cm. Line-line distance should be 20-30cm while plant-plant distance should be 5-7cm.


                      Manure and fertilizers.

For the fulfilment to manures and fertilizers in the it's cultivation, 5tons cowdung and 1.5 tons of vermi compost should be added to the farm, at the time of last ploughing. Along with it use green fertilize along with it is use green fertilize with it. 


                           Weeds control.

For protect the crops from weeds, after 30-35days of harvesting when the plants turns to 7-8cm long then it 1st tilling should be done and when the crop become 50-60days older then the 2nd tilling should be done.


                               Irrigation.

It's organic cultivation require upto 2-3time of irrigation, 1st irrigation should be done at the time of germination, 2nd one after 50-60 days of harvesting and the 3rd one after 90-100 days of the harvesting.


                     Cutting and production.

The crop get ready in 100-120 days after the harvesting, when it Stops blooming flower and seeds turn into to brown then it should be cut down. After it's cutting it should be dried off and after drying the fruits should be taken off from it. By organic cultivation it can give upto 900-1200kg/ heactare of production.
