ORGANIC cultivation of Shingada

          Today we will discuss about shingada.

 
It is grown in ponds and it is a commercial plants. In MP it is cultivated in appropriate 6000 heactare of surface. Mainly, it's raw and fresh fruit are used and the fruits which dry they are used as a flour to make different cuisines. It is cultivated in deep areas where still water is found and it is cultivated from July- November. Upto 1-2feet deep water is needed for it's cultivation.

                Suitable land and climate.

  It is cultivated in tropical evergreen areas. Still water is needed for it's cultivation and the land should have good humus in it. For it's cultivation loamy and sandy loamy soil with ph range of 6-7.5 is good.


                 Preparation of nurseries.

For the preparation of it's nursery, the healthy and ripen fruits should be selected and they are kept drown in water until Jan, before germination or in the 2nd week of February they should be put in the pond and in the month of March the climbers upto 1M of length are plucked off and spread in the pond for cultivation in the month of April- June in a weeds free pond. 300kg of SuperphoSphate, 60kg of potash and 20kg of Urea per hectare is used in the ponds.


                        Plucking of fruits.

Fast ripening varieties are first plucked in the 1st week of October to last week of December. While the Slow ripening are plucked 4times in their whole lifetime. Full ready crops should be plucked as raw fruits are Small in size and thus give less production as compared to well grown fruits.

                    Peeling and Drying of fruits.

In the farm where it is cultivated, it should be added with mud in the month of July. Before 1 week of harvesting, 300 kg of Superphosphate, 60 kg of Potash, 20 kg of Urea along with spoilt cowdung should be added at the rate of per hectare of land. After harvesting, Emidichloroprid 17.8% in SL solution should be used to treat the climber. Treated climbers are tied in themselves and are deeper into the pond. Harvesting is done from the 1st week of July to 15th of the August. When fruits dried completely then it is peeled off by the help of machines and it is dried up in the direct sunlight upto 15-20 days and it is turn here and there for upto 2-3 days then it is packed and used commercially. 

                             Production.

In 1 hectare, raw fruits are obtained upto 8-10 tons and dried fruits are obtained upto 1.7-2.0 tons.
